The Leighton Buzzard Observer reported on Saturday 11th that, after 8 months in office, Tory Police and Crime Commissioner Kathryn Holloway has already charged nearly six thousand pounds to the taxpayer in expenses - covering hotel bills and first class train tickets.
By comparison, her Labour predecessor Olly Martins' expenses claims totalled just over two thousand pounds for his entire three and a half year term!
We recognise that the role of Police and Crime Commissioner entails some travel. But on the evidence of her expenses claims, it is laughable to suggest that Kathryn Holloway and the Conservatives' running of Bedfordshire Police represents value for money for the taxpayer.
Kathryn Holloway has presided over the gutting of senior command positions in Bedfordshire Police, abolishing the posts of Deputy PCC and Deputy Chief of Staff for purely ideological reasons, while doing nothing to address the problems of staffing and budget that have left Bedfordshire Police slammed as "the worst police force in the country."
If you want a Police and Crime Commissioner who seems most interested in cutting police jobs and staying in nice hotels, we're sure the Tories will welcome your support. But if you want the police to have the tools and people they need to keep our communities safe, only Labour can be trusted with your vote.
